The solution combines Kyocera TASKalfa Pro 15000c inkjet technology with the SDD BLM1600 Booklet Maker System, creating a powerful production setup for educational and commercial print applications.

Daily Production for Educational Materials

The system is used daily for approximately 5–6 hours, with peak production periods reaching up to 12 hours across two shifts, especially during the three major exam seasons each year. The customer primarily produces educational and commercial materials, including:

• Exercise books for economics students aged 16–25
• Textbooks for self-publishing
• Commercial apprenticeship training materials
• Learning cards
• Manuals and safety documentation
• Brochures, letterheads and business cards

The company specializes in printing on uncoated paper, which represents 99% of their production.

Expertise in Paper Handling

Most jobs are produced in A4 format, sometimes A5, typically using:

• 240 gsm covers
• 80 gsm recycled paper for inner pages

The team considers itself experts in paper handling, ensuring high-quality booklet production even with challenging materials such as recycled paper or carbon paper applications.

As they describe it: “Everything you can print on uncoated paper, we print.”

Reliable Performance

Since installation in July 2025, the BLM1600 Booklet Maker has already produced over 71,000 booklets, demonstrating reliable and consistent performance. The customer rates the system’s overall performance between 8 and 9 out of 10. While the start required some initial adjustments, the operators quickly became comfortable with the system:

“The start was a bit challenging, but the learning curve was fast and easy.”

The BLM operation is straightforward, particularly for standard A4 and A5 booklet jobs, which run automatically with minimal adjustments – usually only a small front-trim correction when required.

Stable System with Minimal Maintenance

Another major advantage highlighted by the customer is the system’s stability and support by partner Faber. Maintenance is minimal and operators handle most small adjustments internally. When needed, technical support is easily available, with spare parts and service receiving a 10 out of 10 rating.

As the customer summarizes: “The system is running stable. When it runs, it runs.”

“In the moment we are deep in our “Exams Printing Time” and we’ve never been that fast. We can produce around 900-950 copys of 8 pages, A4 booklets on 80g paper per hour. TOP!“
